The story of this lovely property began in 1595 when Louis Joseph d’Aqueria bought an area in Tavel called ‘Puy Sablonneux’ from the monks of the Villeneuve les Avignon abbey. This was a particularly favourable terroir for growing vines.
Château d’Aqueria was owned by many families in succession. Each one modified and erected buildings whilst developing the farmland but, throughout the centuries, the domain held on to its principal vocation as a wine growing estate.
In 1919, the domain was purchased by a Doctor of Law, Jean Olivier. He passed it on to his daughters, Mireille de Bez and Nicole Boccon-Gibod. His son-in-law, Paul de Bastier de Bez took over management followed by his grandsons Vincent & Bruno. Until recently, they managed this magnificent estate of 98 hectares of which 68 hectares were under vine.
In May 2022, the Guigal family joins the line of owners of the Château with the ambition of continuing its story whilst honouring the memory of the people of Aqueria who have worked these excellent terroirs over the years.
